However, it is more difficult to know why they are disengaged and/or confused, and how to fix these problems. Clickers, when used well, can provide the why and how to fix for experienced instructors. For other instructors, in addition to serving those functions, clickers can also help them know much better when students are disengaged and confused.”

While this is a college level video, it really did explore the concepts about making clickers work in any classroom.  Here are a few tips I gleaned from the video: 3-4 questions in a 50 minute lesson is plenty – they should stimulate discussion followed by some lecture if necessary; questions can be used before, during or after a lesson but no matter which you use, the most effective practice is to discuss why answers are correct or incorrect because that type of discussion encourages the most learning.
